Back out on the road again…(8/28)
Hello family and friends,
I’ve just spent a wonderful week in Los Angeles catching up on office work, tax preparation, dinner with friends, and celebrating Mary’s Birthday! Sam IV started his junior year at California State University Northridge in the Film Division Curriculum this week, and Mary Lane just returned to Manhattan and NYU/Tisch for her third year. Mary and Mary Lane drove a 16 foot Penske Moving Truck, full of furniture for Mary Lane’s apartment, from Oxford, Mississippi to Manhattan….Mary drove serenaded by Mary Lane..so proud of my very independent girls. Mary and I are now in New Orleans for some antique shopping with our dear friends Marsha and Frank Tindall and Gary and Glenda Grubbs from Mississippi. Saturday, Mary and I will be honored in Biloxi, Mississippi by Governor and Mrs. Haley Barbour with a children’s playground that is being dedicated in our honor for our work, in Mississippi, post Hurricane Katrina. My book tour continues in Los Angeles on September 2nd with another great signing event at Book Soup in Hollywood at 7:00 pm. I then head to St. Louis and Framingham, Massachusetts for two more book events. Promises I Made My Mother has reached national Best Seller status, and I am both thrilled and humbled. I was doing a radio interview last week and I was asked what I was personally viewing and reading in August. Here are the answers……I’m reading the new biography on the lives of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert entitled, “Just We Two”, and Kathryn Stock’s novel, “The Help”, about maids and their employers in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1950s. Mary and I just saw Meryl Streep’s new movie, Julie and Julia, co-starring Amy Adams. Don’t walk, run to see this film. It’s the best motion picture I’ve seen all year, and Amy Adams and Meryl Streep are both superb! Meryl Streep is clearly the best actress of our time! Her portrayal of Julia Child was spot on! Mary and I LOVED this movie….we laughed and cried. In addition, I’ve been listening to two great CDs….Brad Paisley’s “Mud On The Tires”, and Michael Feinstein’s Frank Sinatra Collection…..both incredible! I’ll be back in touch next week!
Love to all!
